Why This Matters
Road accidents remain a major public health challenge in India. According to the official Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) “Road Accidents in India 2022” report, two‐wheelers accounted for 44.5% of all road‐accident fatalities in India.
Wearing a helmet is among the most effective means of reducing head injuries and fatalities in two-wheeler crashes. The government’s “Helmet – More Than Just a Shell” release states that “proper helmets cut death risk 6×, and reduce brain injury risk by ~74%.
Despite the laws and standards, correct helmet use remains low. For example, a large observational study found that even though ~92% of riders wore some helmet, only ~38% used it correctly.
This gap—between owning a helmet, wearing it, and wearing it correctly—is what our campaign addresses.
What We Do
- Educational sessions: In schools, colleges, workplaces — we talk about helmet use, correct fit, and show what head-injury prevention really means.
- Community outreach & demonstrations: Live demos of helmet fitting, interactive Q&A, handing out leaflets with easy-to-remember checks.
- Campaign materials: Posters, banners, social-media posts with our key message: Helmet On, Future On.
- Collaboration with local authorities: Supporting enforcement drives, helping spread the message that protection is a right, not just a rule.
- Monitoring & feedback: We gather local data (helmet compliance, near-miss stories) to adapt our messaging and reach.
Your Role
- If you ride, make it a habit: Helmet on every time — even for short trips.
- If you’re a pillion rider, insist on your helmet too. Studies show pillion riders often under-protected. PMC+1
- If you know a rider, help them understand the risk: A helmet doesn’t need to be expensive — it needs to be correct and used.
- Join us: Volunteer for awareness drives, talk to your community, share our message on social media.
